Royal Windsor 2011 - Day 2

16/5/2011

This time it was Brook’s turn who was overly excited with it all, so much hat I had to get off and lead her through the car park and down to the arena before I got thrown on the floor or even in the river ahead of us! Good job I had a lot of time to warm up because she sure needed it. I didn’t think today was going to be the one and it wasn’t at all going to go to plan because of how awkward she was being. It was the same course as Olly the previous day so this time I knew where I was going and the best routes to take and hopefully learnt form my stupid mistake of jumping a fence more times than your allowed. I was again 7th out of 10 to jump so had enough time to watch and see how much I needed to go for it. At 7.50- 10 minutes due to start they announced that they weren’t running in catalogue order like they have all week and they were going to draw the order! I was drawn 2nd to jump which was totally against my plans for warm up and course that I was going to jump.
I went in with quite a good idea of where I was going today so I just had to concentrate on getting brook into the arena without rearing up and galloping off out of the warm up. I took exactly the same route as yesterday which took me by surprise as I was going round because Brook is much bigger, faster and stronger to turn, but she was really focused and enjoyed it, I even remembered not to jump fence 100 3 times which gave me more time and I was able to jump 3 extra fences than I did on Olly the day before. Brook came out well into the lead by more than 200 points with a score of 1590. I had to wait a long time as I was right near the beginning so I sat watching intensely, and was worried because people had know seen the route id taken and knew all my tactics! I was listening to every conversation with people saying things like “She went in there and jumped all those twice, if you want to win, that’s what you need to do”. But I managed to hold it and stayed in the lead with a clear win by over 200 points. After an extra lap of honour on my own, the photographer asked me to go round once more so he could get some photos & I was asked if I could go for an interview in the tent when I had finished which was very exciting! As the previous day I then went into the scurry where I wasn’t too bothered on how I did because I had already achieved higher than expected. So I didn’t push her too much and she jumped a lovely clear which there weren’t many of and came 3rd.
